OK! Isn’t it entirely inequitable that my parents do not trust me with a phone? It is utter injustice! It is unthinkable that even after years of being perfectly responsible (at least I feel so), I could not dispel the grave misperceptions that I am a certified accountable individual who can tame the sense of urgency to flip through new messages or switch off unwanted notifications when they pop up on the screen! However, looking on the bright side, my mother let me use her phone for all my WhatsApp groups and chats. Making the most of it, I spent all my time changing her profile picture, until I discovered her status. Today, something hilarious happened regarding her status update!
My mom normally does not post status updates. Today when I scrolled through her status bar, I observed that many of her friends were posting status messages. And, instantly an idea hit me. There is an entire folder of me and Em’s childhood pics in my mom’s phone. Scrolling through the myriad of pictures, I noticed one which I thought would be perfect for a status update. I edited and uploaded a childhood picture of ours onto the status, and then waited with bated breath. I had no idea what would happen next as I was posting it entirely without my mother’s knowledge about it. I left the phone as soon as I heard her footsteps approaching and acted nonchalantly. And then, we left for swimming.
After we returned and my mom turned to check her messages, she seemed to be bewildered. The first thing she uttered was “ Who is cute? What have I done?” Hilarious! She even messaged one of her friends, and the message read “What on Earth are you talking about?” Till that point, she did not have an inkling that her friends were commenting on the status update and thousands of emojis were floating into her inbox. I started rolling in the aisles and told her that she should immerse herself in the shower of praises. She glared at me, and then came the anticipated stern instruction “Inform me beforehand”. I grinned at the look on her face, and she started laughing as well.
“You should be grateful that I made you so popular”, I retorted. She transformed her look into a death stare, and I backed away, sheepishly grabbing the phone, and scanning through it to remove the remnant traces of my planned status updates. And as expected, my mom was like “ Well, now I hope you get it, why I do not buy you a phone!”
Come on! Seriously?! ☹
