Greer McDonald has always been a loner, a geek. Getting into one of the most prestigious schools in the country should mean that you have an established social status, but she probably forgot that smart people can be snobs too.
And bullies.
As she struggles to fit in at the school, exclusively known as S.T. A.G.S, she gets a strange invitation from the “popular” group for a weekend of hunting, shooting, and fishing.
Even weirder?
The other misfits like her are also invited in.
But then, she soon realizes that nothing is what it seems, and what’s being hunted isn’t the wild game, the boars, or the stags…
It’s them. The misfits.
S.T.A.G.S, by M.A. Bennett
Have I mentioned that I love murder mysteries?
S.T.A.G.S is a thrilling, absolutely incredible novel…with a few dark undertones. The throw-in to the grand and prestigious boarding school makes you feel overwhelmed and daunted, and the fact that this school also happens to be cut off from modern society gives it an old, somehow more ominous feel.
- From the very first page, you can instantly tell that something’s going to go wrong, and that overwhelming suspense nearly made me flip right to the last page and then read the ending first (DON’T DO THAT☹), but I escaped that magnetic thought with the skin of my teeth.
- What made me read this whole book in one sitting, no breaks, and my eyes glued to the page is that in every chapter, there’s a new plot twist. A murder there, a cult here (again, no spoilers), someone missing and so on. It’s a very riveting, spellbinding, captivating tale, and it just pulls you in, because you REALLY, REALLY won’t be able to predict what happens next.
- The journey throughout is very gripping, and I was sucked into Greer’s story, her hardships, realizations, and revelations as she gets tangled up in a dangerous and mysterious game. Betrayals slam her, she nearly dies twice, and she faces so, so much but yet she makes it through to the end. I was consistently rooting for her, and her strong bonding and friendship with the other invitees. Her connection to her other friends and her determination to solve the mystery kept me up to the very end (Literally. I slept at 12 a.m. Even then, my mind was plagued with theories and speculations.)
While it’s a fun read, it sheds light on important issues like class, social status and morality, and packs a great, big punch. It’s entertaining, but if you look closer, you’ll see that it holds a deeper meaning.
OH AND, AND…
No, I shouldn’t.
BUT I JUST-
My moral conscience tells me not to spoil anything for you…
All I’ll say is the ending…isn’t the ending.
But I will highly, HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone. READ IT. You won’t regret it.
Popularity isn’t everything. It isn’t always what it seems.
Hunting. Fishing. Shooting.
Destroying.
Signing off…
