Introducing… The Empress of Mischief!

There she goes! My little sister rummaging into the refrigerator to fill her bowl with two extra scoops of ice-cream. She also grabs some candies and MNMs and hides it in her pockets. She looks at me from the corner of her tiny eyes and winks. I recall my poor Mum’s words “Just a SINGLE ice-cream scoop after lunch”. And then she plops onto the sofa and starts enjoying her self-earned desserts. My dessert craving gives in and I ask Em to share some candies with me which she sourly denies. By the time she almost finishes her dessert platter, the ice-cream is all over her face and her T-shirt. Mum, who was busy working suddenly appears from nowhere and glares at Em. Em fumbles and the ice-cream bowl topples, and our sofa and the cushion gets painted in shades of ice-cream. You should have seen Mum! She went into a frenzy thinking what to clean first. 😉.

Hello everyone! I hereby introduce (with the loud sound of a Bugle!), the Empress of Mischief, yes, that’s right, my darling disastrous sister, whom I lovingly call ‘Em’.

Em it is….

The reason why I call her ‘Em’(abridged version of Empress of Mischief ) is because of the fact that whatever she does has to be mischievous. For example, once she “accidentally”{it was NOT an accident} scribbled all over her own cupboard. I was walking past and noticed it. The gasp that emitted from my mouth was so huge that my mother arrived. She gave Em an earful. Em was bawling, her face buried in a pillow. I felt genuinely miserable and hugged her tight. Little did I know that my school bag was also beautifully decorated by her scribblings…..

Em loves playing with food , for example adorning her hair with noodles from her plate. At times, it becomes difficult to distinguish between her hair and the noodles. She also feeds her food to her soft toys, those very soft toys that I had lend to Em once and never got them back (sniff sniff !). She has the most eccentric “language of the babies”, using which she composes the weirdest songs. They’re like a mix of English, Hindi, and something like …..? I have absolutely no idea! The gibberish lyrics in high decibels, and the completely discordant notes played on the piano (Yes! all she does is bang her fingers on random keys) can chase a devil away! The lyrics go like ” O ki la moto, titli zi noto, jumping jumping , ce na nan na na..la la la…..”. Can someone please explain to me what does that even mean?!

AHHH! Em, get off me! I didn’t mean it! You are so melodious! Spare my eardrums!!!!

Now, as I was saying… why is there glue in my hair?! Ok, never mind.

She is also extremely fashion-conscious or should I say purple-conscious. Not that she has a sense of fashion but the girl is purple obsessed. She wears a purple dress with a yellow scarf perfectly matched with purple shoes and a purple hairband! Her sunglasses are purple which she proudly wears even at night (seriously!!). Oh! I feel the urge to mention her makeup schedule. If you cannot locate Em in the house, you must know that she has sneaked in her mirror room (That’s what I call it!) and is applying the cream, lipstick, eyeshadows etc etc etc. She often provides me excellent makeup tips (Ya! I know!). And whenever she interacts with people, she’ll always smoothen her hair! She has no idea how hard I laugh when I see it.

A perfect chatterbox she is, when I’m nearly asleep at night, she just crawls up to me and begins her rant “ Di, you know, I don’t like these people in my class and let me tell you why”, and then for the twentieth time, she recites her list of dislikes and reasons for the same. And then she sighs. She has one of THE LOUDEST SIGHS EVER! The gush of air from her sigh can set me flying off (Hyperbole again?).

“Oh my god, let me sleeeeeeeeeeeeeep”. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !!!!!!

Get what I mean? But one thing I must admit. It is IMPOSSIBLE to be furious at her. Why? Let me share that with you in another blog. Do you have siblings? Please share with me your amusingly annoying experiences.

Signing off…..
