COVID times! And all our plans for the celebration went up in smoke because of this pandemic. Usually, we would decorate our classrooms, organize events and surprise our teachers with gifts just as a small tribute to our teachers. For the last two years, the Teacher’s Day celebration has been a low-key affair. We could not host any events because of social distancing. The school canteen was desolate as we were not allowed to gather for a small snack party. Sigh! The conditions did dampen our spirits initially, but we rebounded.
To maintain the spirit of Teacher’s Day, we made personalized thank you notes, bought chocolates, as well as presents. While deciding on the gifts, there was a huge discussion between me and my parents. Em kept on buzzing in and out of the discussion, getting hit by my flailing hands as I tried to prove a point. There was no coherence between me and my parents’ choices of gifts. At the end of the day, me and Em had a bunch of bags with customized gifts and cards for all my teachers! For Em, it was an entirely new experience of giving gifts to teachers (she assumes that only kids receive gifts!) and hence she was in sheer shock at the number of bags that I arranged neatly into her cupboard. The next day, each of us presented the gifts and our educators were elated as always.
Honestly, for me, Teacher’s Day should be celebrated every day! I simply get amazed at the humongous efforts put in by our educators to guide and inspire us despite all the challenges (Yeah! At times we are really difficult to manage). Really! I mean it. I want to give a BIG “Thank You” to all my teachers for never letting me give up and inculcating valuable life skills in me.
Thank You, Teachers!
