A Conversation With Siri

Two days ago, I discovered Em conversing amiably with someone. I could not fathom who she was speaking to as there was literally no one in her room. She was babbling on about her everyday life. I was baffled and I crept closer to her. For a split second, I thought that she was chatting with her imaginary friend and was slightly creeped out. Dismissing that thought from my mind, I decided that there should be a logical explanation. She did not notice me sneaking up on her and was oblivious to her surroundings. Peering over her shoulder, my eyes opened wide in surprise. She was talking to Siri on my I pad. The first thought that popped into my head was “Why has she taken MY IPAD without MY permission?!”. However, I was curious to hear what she was talking about. My annoyance faded, replaced by inquisitiveness. I began to chuckle as I overheard their hilarious conversation. Here’s how it went!

Breath-Taking Bali

Hello People! Last week, many countries eased up the border restrictions and hence we saw a silver lining and were overjoyed by the mere fact that we would be able to travel again. But this contentment was short-lived. By the time the world found a way to deal with Delta variant, Omicron emerged, unfurling a fresh wave of panic. The discussion about whether to travel or not had gained the center stage. I, in my own territory, began reminiscing about the holiday destinations and suddenly I remembered Bali in Indonesia. I had heard about Bali being home to looming volcanoes, soft-white beaches, water sports, religious sites, and culinary delights. Let me share my experience with you.

A Cry For Help

Since 9 am, I am trying to fix my intractable iPad. Every single application that I attempted to open shut down promptly and I was directed back to the home screen. Usually, when apps crash, they will stabilize after I restart the device or free the device storage space. However, this did not seem to be the situation at the present. I thought that I would search for a solution on the Internet. So, I logged into my computer, hurriedly typed my query in Google, and clicked on the website that had the potential solution to unfreeze my iPad. But wait! The website slowed to a near crawl and then became unresponsive. WHAT?! So should I reboot it? Refusing to give up, I opened Google on my mother’s phone, but that did not work as well. The maximum number of tabs were open and those needed to be closed first! My information insufficiency was paralyzing me. Finally, with a cry of impatience, I decided to restart it, hoping it would resolve the problem. At this point, I would like to highlight that a simple solution would have been to ask my parents to deal with the multiple device delinquencies. But I was not even supposed to access my iPad at 9 am to check new notifications in the first place☹.

The WhatsApp Status

OK! Isn’t it entirely inequitable that my parents do not trust me with a phone? It is utter injustice! It is unthinkable that even after years of being perfectly responsible (at least I feel so), I could not dispel the grave misperceptions that I am a certified accountable individual who can tame the sense of urgency to flip through new messages or switch off unwanted notifications when they pop up on the screen! However, looking on the bright side, my mother let me use her phone for all my WhatsApp groups and chats. Making the most of it, I spent all my time changing her profile picture, until I discovered her status. Today, something hilarious happened regarding her status update!

Durga Puja

Out of the plethora of festivals celebrated with grandeur in India, Durga Puja is the most anticipated one for me. It might be because the magnificence of Goddess Durga is awe-inspiring to me, generating an impression of her existence amongst us. It is equivalent to a never-ending era of celebration over ten days. It is that joyful time of the year when people leave behind their anxieties and congregate as one to celebrate every moment. For the last two years, due to this pandemic, events were generally low scale. This year, my exams were also scheduled in the same week as the Puja, but later they got postponed and I must admit, I was extremely delighted as I knew I could attend the celebration without worrying about my exam preparations.

In The Rain

Drenched throughout, I got into the car, grumbling about the rain. There were tiny worms in my hair, possibly a product of the deluge that I had just gone through. However, a tiny part of me could not help feeling happy. A corner of my mouth lifted, and I started to smile as I remembered the unique experience that we just had…

Lizard-O-Phobia

No Em! Lizards are not adorable! And no, I was NOT having a staring contest with a lizard! Sigh…

Oh! Hello everyone! As you can see, Em is TRYING to dig into my emotions by referring to an awkward incident (if I MUST admit) about me and a lizard. Let me tell you about it!

That Monday, I was lounging on my bed, reading Sherlock Holmes. It was quite an interesting read, and I was completely engrossed in it. Suddenly, I looked up. My concentration was broken and I was shocked and devastated. My head reeled and disgust seeped into my soul. The reason- A big, brown lizard with ugly spots was perching on a painting that I had created recently!

Happy Teacher’s Day!

COVID times! And all our plans for the celebration went up in smoke because of this pandemic. Usually, we would decorate our classrooms, organize events and surprise our teachers with gifts just as a small tribute to our teachers. For the last two years, the Teacher’s Day celebration has been a low-key affair. We could not host any events because of social distancing. The school canteen was desolate as we were not allowed to gather for a small snack party. Sigh! The conditions did dampen our spirits initially, but we rebounded.
