Dear 11-year-old Self,

Dear 11-year-old self,

As I found myself reminiscing over the memories and nightmares stemming from a whirlpool I have now been yanked out of, one which I lovingly termed Junior High School, a notification popped up on my phone, a mere number of days after my 15th birthday. “Write a letter back to your 11-year-old self” was the event set, created on April 10, 2021, the day when you published your very first blog after months of deliberation, apprehension and stringent editing, courtesy of Mum. So, here I am today, your older, wiser, more experienced and far more scarred persona, writing a letter back to you, answering all those questions you had no answers for back then. Consider it a testament to the time capsule you created, a reminder of the straightforward, joyful childhood I wish I could return to. Guess what, it’s now three years until your graduation, darling, and time is slipping away like a flowing river, never slowing down.

Remember?

Durga Puja

I want to apologize for the long periods of delay between posts. I was swamped with yearlies and recurring assessments, losing writing inspiration at the rate of light years (1 parsec, anyone?). The last time I wrote a post on Durga Puja was three years ago. Or something. All I know is time flew by, getting sucked into a wormhole, and I found myself, once again this year, celebrating the same Puja again.

Happy Father’s Day!

The elephant lumbers up to his calves, cutting a sharp path through the thick foliage. Animals greet him with enthusiastic twerps and excited cheers as he swaggers by. Exhaustion looms over his face and the arduous task has made his feet wobbly. But he walks with poise. The calves dart, frolicking around one of their younger cousins, squabbling over a toy that they discovered recently.

Durga Puja

Out of the plethora of festivals celebrated with grandeur in India, Durga Puja is the most anticipated one for me. It might be because the magnificence of Goddess Durga is awe-inspiring to me, generating an impression of her existence amongst us. It is equivalent to a never-ending era of celebration over ten days. It is that joyful time of the year when people leave behind their anxieties and congregate as one to celebrate every moment. For the last two years, due to this pandemic, events were generally low scale. This year, my exams were also scheduled in the same week as the Puja, but later they got postponed and I must admit, I was extremely delighted as I knew I could attend the celebration without worrying about my exam preparations.

Happy Teacher’s Day!

COVID times! And all our plans for the celebration went up in smoke because of this pandemic. Usually, we would decorate our classrooms, organize events and surprise our teachers with gifts just as a small tribute to our teachers. For the last two years, the Teacher’s Day celebration has been a low-key affair. We could not host any events because of social distancing. The school canteen was desolate as we were not allowed to gather for a small snack party. Sigh! The conditions did dampen our spirits initially, but we rebounded.
