Lizard-O-Phobia

No Em! Lizards are not adorable! And no, I was NOT having a staring contest with a lizard! Sigh…

Oh! Hello everyone! As you can see, Em is TRYING to dig into my emotions by referring to an awkward incident (if I MUST admit) about me and a lizard. Let me tell you about it!

That Monday, I was lounging on my bed, reading Sherlock Holmes. It was quite an interesting read, and I was completely engrossed in it. Suddenly, I looked up. My concentration was broken and I was shocked and devastated. My head reeled and disgust seeped into my soul. The reason- A big, brown lizard with ugly spots was perching on a painting that I had created recently!

I screamed. I thought that my scream would scare it off, but it did not. The scream was reciprocated by a subtle grin. I loathe lizards, no matter what science says about them being a crucial element of the food chain. Yes! Agreed. But that does not mean that I must play peek-a-boo with them every single day. OK! So, I tried to swat the lizard away with a book, sending the book crashing to the floor and hitting my toe in the process. As I cringed in pain, the lizard scampered up the wall, towards the air-conditioner. It turned its head towards me, its beady, black eyes mocking me, daring me to catch it.

And believe me, I tried.

I spent a good thirty minutes chasing it around the room. In the end, I was breathless while it seemed perfectly relaxed. I could hear its jeer ☹. Oh! The nerve of that lizard! When I finally managed to chase it out of my room, it swiftly made a U-turn and sprinted up the wall. It sat there, looking quite pleased with itself for escaping my clutches. I glared at it, willing it to go away, ignoring the pleas of Em to leave the cute creature alone (How is a lizard CUTE?). It glared back, telling me to stop bothering it. The Cold War culminated with Em’s shrill, devilish laughter. By the time I turned back to stare at it, it was gone. It has now become an important inhabitant of my room, and occasionally drops by to say “Hello.”

These frequent visits have not succeeded in changing my opinion of lizards. Maybe one day in the future, they will!

Signing off…

  1. Though lizard is a disliked reptile in this universe, there is a ancient religious story that lizard is a sign of goddess Laxmi. They are very peaceful and never hurt any body. But their presence
    irritates everyone.
